Zachary Coffin was born at the end of 1968 in Atlanta, Georgia. He got a job fresh out of high school as a newspaper photographer. A few years later, Coffin went to the Cooper Union (Art'93) in New York City. This led to a gig at Socrates Sculpture Park and then a move to San Francisco, opening up new ideas of scale. Burning Man opened up even more ideas of scale. A move to steel-rich Birmingham, Alabama brought a solo show of big works at the museum of art, a number of commissions and eventually a move back to Atlanta. Atlanta is now home to Coffin's Gravity Works Studio. Zachary Coffin is currently living in Zurich with his wife and daughter.
